THE Somerset School of Performing Arts' Search For a Star competition in Yeovil has been hailed a tremendous success.
More than 60 children and young people between the ages of five and 19 attended.
The afternoon started with fun taster sessions for all in acting, singing and dance, this was followed by the competition where the children performed their own piece in thier favourite discipline.
Organisers were delighted that they had an amazing array of performers including singers, dancers, actors and actresses, musicians, poets and, even, a stilt performer.
The judges had a really difficult task to pick just one winner as there were so many amazing performances.
The overall winner for the 2009 competition was 12-year-old Darcie Hammett from Martock who sang Look at me I'm Sandra Dee from Grease which showed off her cheeky personality, her vocal and acting abilities. The runners-up were Jasmin Rendall, aged 8, Laura Battipaglia, aged 14, Matthew Crane, aged 13, Marcus Sangiovani, aged 15, and Jack Evans, aged 17.
The judges were the school's specialist teachers - Helen Laxton, Catherine Sprackman, Josh Marriott and Mark Lawson.
