POLLS for the Countryside Alliance Awards have opened this month and organisers are encouraging you to help bring the region a national title in 2009.
This, the fifth year of the awards, will celebrate communities, produce, enterprise and rural heritage as members of the public applaud those who go the extra mile for community life.
The award categories are: local food award – won last year by Wrington Greens Organic Farm in North Somerset; village shop/post office award – last year’s winner was Berrynarbour Community Shop in Ilfracombe, Devon; enterprise award – won last year by Pipers Farm in Collumpton, Devon; Daily Telegraph traditional business award – won last year by A M Hobbs Firearms and Anglisng of Midsomer Norton.
There are also nominations for political campaigners with the Grassroots Award for local political campaigning and the Westminster Award for a rural champion at parliament.
