A MAN who had an epileptic fit while driving a bin lorry in New York and lost control, killing a Yeovil couple, has been found guilty of murder.
Auvryn Scarlett, 53, had denied the charge of murdering Jacqueling Timmins, 47, and her 48-year-old partner Andrew Hardie in February of last year.
But a jury at the New York Supreme Court has ruled - in the last couple of hours - that Scarlett was guilty of murdering the couple who were walking along the pavement.
They had been in the Big Apple for a romantic Valentine's Day break, but tragedy struck while they were walking back to their hotel.
The court had been told that Scarlett had failed to inform his employers that he was epileptic and that he had also stopped taking his medication.
Scarlett had an epileptic attack while at the wheel and the bin lorry mounted the pavement and ploughed into the Yeovil couple.
Scarlett will be sentenced on October 15.
