A STUDENT from South Somerset attended a prestigious BAFTA ceremony recently after being chosen as a national finalist at the Young Film Critic of the Year awards.
Jess Wilson, 16, of Tatworth, near Chard, was selected as one of four national finalists after writing an outstanding film review as part of her course work at Wellington School, where she is a student.
She travelled to London to attend the special award ceremony at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.
The awards are part of National Schools Film Week, an educational event where thousands of students in the UK see free films at local cinemas, and schools use film as part of their teaching.
Jess was one of the top scorers at the BAFTA ceremony, which was attended by actor Tom Felton – who is best known as Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films - and other VIPs from the film industry, which supports the event.
And Jess said: “I went with my mum, dad and two friends. I never got the letter they sent in the summer, so I only heard two weeks ago. I was very excited.”
Jess, who hopes to become a film critic or journalist in the future, reviewed the film The Devils Wears Prada.
