Armistice Day: Lest We Forget Yeovil's fallen Part 10


THE tenth part of our tribute to Yeovil’s fallen war dead as commemorate Armistice Day.

TAVENDER, Archibald Vernon: Died on on April 15, 1917, while serving as an Ordinary Seaman with HMS Hannibal.

THOMPKINS, Thomas; Died on May 22, 1918, while serving as a Private with the 7th Battalion of the Queen’s Own Royal West Kent Regiment. He lived in Alexandra Road, Yeovil, with his wife and one child.

THORNE, T: No details are known about this fallen Yeovil serviceman.

TUCK, Alfred Charles: Died on August 16, 1917, while serving as a Gunner with the Royal Field Artillery D Battery of the 71st Brigade. His parents lived at Cromwell Road, Yeovil.

TUCKER, Clarence Endicott: Died on February 18, 1918, aged just 22, while serving as a Private with the 1st/5th Battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry.

TUCKER, Ernest: Died on October 10, 1916, while serving as a Rifleman with the 1st/2nd Battalion of the London Regiment. His parents lived in Morton Terrace, Newtown, Yeovil.

TUCKER, S: Died on September 9, 1916, aged 26, while serving as a Private with the Canadian Infantry. His mother lived in Wellington Street, Yeovil.

VAUGHAN, Lionel Francis: Died on August 17, 1916, aged 27, while serving as a Lance Corporal with the South African Sharpshooters. His father was a stationmaster in Yeovil.

VOWLES, Henry C: Died on October 4, 1915, while serving as a Private with the 10th Battalion of the Cameronians. His parents lived in Brunswick Street, Yeovil.

WALL, Frederick: Died on November 7, 1918, aged 40, while serving as a Corporal with the Saddler Army Service Corps. His wife lived in Park Street, Yeovil.

WARREN, William James: Died on March 10, 1917, aged 21, while serving as a Rifleman with the 15th Battalion of the London Regiment. His parents lived in King Street, Yeovil.

WAY, Evered Bruce: Died on August 11, 1918, aged 30, while serving as a Lance Corporal with the 1st Battalion of the Dorsetshire Regiment. His wife lived in Goldcroft, Yeovil.

WEALE, Ralph Leonard: Died on August 9, 1919, while serving as a Private with the 3rd Battalion of the Worcestershire Regiment. His grandfather lived in Mudford Road, Yeovil.

WELCH, John Milton: Died on September 13, 1916, while serving as a Corporal with the 6th Battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry.

WHATLEY, H. F: Died on April 26, 1918, while serving as a Private with the 6th Battalion of the Wiltshire Regiment. His parents lived in Highfield Road, Yeovil, while his wife lived in Maiden Bradley, Wiltshire.

WHITBY, Edgar: Died on July 23, 1916, while serving as a Private with the 10th Battalion of the Gloucestershire Regiment. His parents lived at Trinity House in Yeovil.

WHITE, Albert Sidney: Died on August 5, 1918, while serving as a Private with the 1st Battalion of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment. His parents lived at Park Street, Yeovil.

WHITE, Henry: Died on August 17, 1917, while serving as a Sergeant with the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Irish Regiment. His sister lived in South Street, Yeovil.

WHITE, Henry John: Died on October 9, 1917, while serving as a Private with the 1st Battalion of the Coldstream Guards. His wife lived in Beer Street, Yeovil.

WHITE, Robert George: Died on September 17, 1916, while serving as a Private with the 1st/2nd London Regiment. His parents lived at Eastland Road, Yeovil.

WHITTINGTON, William Walter: Died on July 31, 1918, aged 22, while serving as a Private in the 2nd/4th Battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry. His father lived at Alexandra Road, Yeovil.

WILLIS, Henry George: Died on December 22, 1915, while serving as a Second Lieutenant with the 2nd Battalion of the Durham Light Infantry. His brother-in-law lived at Park Street, Yeovil.

WILLIS, William John: Died on November 14, 1918, while serving as a Sergeant with the Dorsetshire Regiment. He lived at Park Street, Yeovil, with his wife and they had two children. He died in hospital from pneumonia, but had been promoted to Sergeant just three days previously on Armistice Day itself.

WINSOR, Percy Lionel: Died on April 19, 1917, while serving as a Private with the 1st/5th Battalion of the Hampshire Regiment. His parents lived in Brunswick Street, Yeovil.

WINSOR, Stanley James: Died on September 2, 1918, aged 27, while serving as a Private with the 12th Battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry. He was the second son that his parents, Mr and Mrs J. Winsor, of Brunswick Street, had lost in the Great War.

YERBURY, John Hedley Wright: Died on March 23, 1918, while serving as a Private with the 4th Queen’s Own Hussars.

YOUNG, Frank: Died on November 17, 1916, aged 20, while serving as a Private with the 2nd Battalion of the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry. He lived at North Terrace, Newtown, Yeovil.

YOUNG, Richard Webber: Died on April 9, 1917, while serving as a Private with the 25th Tyneside Irish Battalion of the Northumberland Fusiliers. His mother lived in Huish, Yeovil.

Our commemoration of Yeovil’s fallen war dead will continue throughout today – Armistice Day.
