YEOVIL College music students will be performing brand new and classic material at the Barn on the Mudford Road campus on tonight (Tuesday) and tomorrow.
At the first event starting at 7.30pm TONIGHT (February 9), second year students will be premiering a selection of entirely new and original material, all written as part of their course and not previously performed in public.
The bands include ‘Adam West’, featuring Ryan Callard (vocals), Scott Hitchcock and James Jackson (guitar), Chris Woolmington (drums) and Liam Fowler (bass guitar); ‘Vaguely Arabian’, which features Toby Walkley (vocals/guitar), Jake Belben (bass guitar), Bok Thiphakorn (keyboards) and Dean Frost (drums).
Students Liam Fowler (guitar), Scott Hitchcok (guitar), Bok Thiphakirn (bass) and Dean Frost (drums) will also perform as ‘The Switch’.
The second gig TOMORROW (February 10) features first year students. Each performer will play six songs, one from each of the key pop decades of the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s.
Both bands and individuals will be on stage, including Sophie Hosken-Taylor, Felicity Dewane and ‘2Punk’, which includes George Belben (guitar), Freddie Swinerton (guitar/vocals), Henry Aldred (bass) and Mikey Martelette.
Additional bands include ‘The Navigators’ of regulars Sam Askill (guitar/vocals), Ashley Pouldton (guitar) and Mark Tucker (bass) and ‘The Casual Ts’, including Nat Wakeman (vocals), Conor Davies (bass), Rob Rose (guitar), Adrien James (guitar) and Brandon James (drums).
The event starts at 7pm.
Tickets costs £2 and are available on the door.
Head of music, Simon Squire, said: “It’s great that Yeovil College has the facilities for students to perform every six to eight weeks.
“It means they can get a real taste for live performance and how to understand and react to an audience.
“These gigs will feature a range of music, from punk to electro-pop, from Elvis to the Minutemen, so the students will really have an opportunity to push themselves.”
The next music events will be in late March. For more information, please visit www.yeovil.ac.uk.
