THE work of the Yeovil and Sherborne Samaritans has been praised for its high standards in an official report.
An audit was carried out by a team of specially-trained and experienced “visitors” from other branches of the charity who said that the Yeovil group – based at The Park – was “the best” it had visited.
Available 24 hours a day throughout the year, the volunteers provide confidential emotional support for anyone experiencing feels of distress and despair, including those which may lead to suicide.
The visitors were full of praise for the branch achievements, from caring for callers and volunteers, through training and management, to prison support and future outreach plans.
Director Sarah said: “We have a superb team of very willing volunteers based in a wonderfully comfortable, welcoming building.
“We take calls either on the phone or in person from anyone who is experiencing a time of stress or crisis.
“Talking to someone who is not directly involved but who is trained to listen has proved for over 57 years to be an important step towards discovering a solution for millions of people.” The next Information Evening is on Tuesday, April 20, at 7 pm.
Anyone interested in becoming a Samaritan should ring the branch at any time on 01935-476455, call in or write to 25 The Park, Yeovil, BA20 1DG, or look for ‘Yeovil Samaritans’ on the internet.
