A MOTHER of six completed a life long ambition after shedding four stone.

Sharon James, 40, from Minehead, was fed up of putting on weight and feeling out of breath when playing with her children and decided to make a change for the better.

She took on a fitness programme at West Somerset Leisure Centre including up to ten exercise classes a week.

And Sharon’s good work soon rubbed off on husband Paul who also signed up to the classes and lost over two stone.

Sharon said: “I just reached a point where enough was enough and decided to go for it.

“Going to the classes at West Somerset is great fun, I do a great variety of circuits, aerobics, boxercise and spinning classes.

“It is also great to meet new friends.”

Thanks to her weight loss and new found fitness regime, Sharon also completed the challenge of a life time, climbing Mount Snowdon with Paul to mark their 15th wedding anniversary.

She added: “I never dreamed I would be able to do it but I was really thrilled to complete the challenge.”

Somerset Leisure, which manages West Somerset Leisure Centre, is launching a series of free taster sessions for fitness and non vocational courses to encourage adults to take up a new sport or activity.

Circus skills, pilates and street dance are some of the new courses that are on offer as part of a national health initiative.

Somerset Leisure was awarded £93,000 by the Government backed Transformation Fund to provide courses and activities at 13 of its leisure centres which it runs across Somerset.
