LOCAL hotelier Lucy McGee has bought The Bull pub in Ilchester for an undisclosed sum.
The news has been announced by Christie & Co, acting on behalf of Punch Taverns, who sold the freehold interest of The Bull to Lucy. The sellers were asking for a price in the region of £295,000.
The Grade II listed building features a 60-cover main bar, games room, beer garden and a four-bedroom owner’s accommodation.
Lucy, who owns the Ilchester Arms Hotel opposite the pub, plans to turn The Bull into a family pub serving local/traditional real ales and ciders, as well as offering a number of games including skittles, darts, pool and table football.
The pub will also offer fresh home cooked dishes, using fresh and locally-sourced ingredients wherever possible. Lucy also plans to put on live music and special events.
She said: “Opening The Bull will be beneficial to Ilchester as it will attract more people to the village.
“We hope by opening The Bull that we create a warm friendly welcome to locals and people passing through the area.
“The Ilchester Arms will continue to run as normal and will be another place for people to come and visit.
“We are all very excited about the opening of The Bull and hope it will be a great success.”
Christie & Co director Nicholas Calfe said: “The Bull Inn had been recently closed and our marketing attracted the interest of operators and developers thinking of its conversion to residential.
“We are delighted that The Bull will continue to operate as a public house and are confident that it will prove a success under Lucy’s ownership.”
