POLICE in Yeovil are appealing for information after an elderly woman claims to have been conned out of hundreds of pounds.

On Friday, March 5, the victim, a 76-year-old woman, from the Sandringham Road area of Yeovil, was approached by three men offering to clean out her guttering.

She paid the men for this work but after they had completed it they told her she needed more work doing on her roof, which they would complete for a further fee if she paid in cash.

The victim believes however that the men did not carry out the second lot of work that she paid for.

The suspects drove an unmarked white van and claimed to work for a cleaning company based in Martock.

A police spokesman said: “We would advise anyone who is considering employing workmen to carry out building work or repairs to get several written quotes from reputable firms, then decide which one is best.

“If in doubt, talk it through with a neighbour or someone you trust before going ahead with the work.”

Police are appealing for anyone who may have also been approached by this group or who may have information in relation to it to get in touch. Anyone who thinks they can help with enquiries should contact Yeovil police on 0845-4567000.
