STUDENTS from two departments at Yeovil College came together with their families, friends and staff to celebrate their successes at a presentation evening held as part of the college’s Festival of Achievement.
The students were congratulated for their achievements after another year of hard work.
In particular, students were recognised for their commitment and determination in completing qualifications and for displaying particular skills and enthusiasm during their chosen course.
The Level 2 Award Beauty Therapy winners were as follows: Julie Howell, Yeovil, who won the Anatomy & Physiology Award; Cara Studley, Sherborne, was presented with the Dedication & Commitment Award; and Therapist of the Year was awarded to Rose Firth, Hardington Moor, who also won the Peer of the Year Award.
The Level 3 Beauty Therapy winners were as follows: Deborah Hutchings, Yeovil, who won Peer of the Year; Charlotte Morris, of Stoke-sub-Hamdon, who won the Anatomy & Physiology Award; and Samantha Barker, of Gillingham, who was presented with the Outstanding Achievement Award.
Therapist of Excellence was presented to Liza Burlington, of Yeovil, and Jane Iredale Make-up Award was presented to Donna Jarman, of Yeovil.
The full-time Horticulture Award was presented to BTEC National Diploma student Adam Homewood, of Sherborne, whilst other full-time course awards were won by Arron Laird, Dan Brewin, Will Snell and Ben Tolhurst who were not able to be at the event.
The part-time students were also presented with awards. The National Award in Horticulture went to Denise Brown, Ronnie Franklin, Venetia Venning and Graham Stanbury.
Special presentations were awarded to Mark Mawdlsey, Jenny Gorge, Frances Holme, April Marks and Diana Blake for their Practical Contribution.
The award for Best Garden Design went to Jill Smith, of Langport; Best Flora Decoration went to Rebecca Edwards, of Yeovil, and the award for Best Identification of Native Flora went to Juli Moran, of Shaftesbury.
A number of horticultural awards were presented to part-time students. Student of the Year was presented to Adrian Goldring, of Yeovil, for completing his National Diploma course, which contributed to his promotion to head of horticulture at Yeovil Hospital. Adrian was presented with his award by Steven Fox, landscape officer at South Somerset District Council.
The evening culminated in a disco for the students, their guests and the staff.
Programme area co-ordinator for beauty, Jenny Workman, said: “The Student of the Year Awards this year were outstanding and we congratulate them all on their achievements. We wish them all the very best for their future employment.”
