ARDENT beekeeper Deb Glennie will present a day course on bees at Dillington House on Tuesday, August 17.

She will show people how to recognise bees, their basic anatomy, how they make honey and how they have been kept by humans over millennia.

People will also find out how to attract them into their garden and benefit from their pollination, whilst they in turn are helped by the pollen and nectar the plants provide.

Honeybees have been on this earth for about 25 million years. It is estimated that one third of the human food supply depends on insect pollination, most of which is accomplished by bees.

The effects of these tiny animals on the environment and agriculture are hugely beneficial and important, and gardens are an increasingly valuable place for them to forage.

Deb is an excellent and enthusiastic tutor who receives glowing comments from participants.

A fascinating and enjoyable day is guaranteed for everyone interested in bees and advice will be available for those thinking of going further and taking up beekeeping!

The course takes place on August 17 and costs £41 including a three-course buffet lunch and refreshments.
