LEWESTON School in Sherborne has been celebrating record A-level results today for the third time in five years.
Sixth-Form girls achieved a 100% pass rate and 80% of the A-levels were passed at grade A* to B or Pre-U equivalent. A total of 53% of the results were passed at the new A* or A grades or Pre-U equivalent, a 10% improvement on last year and almost double the national average of 27%.
Seventeen per cent of the results were passed at the new A* grade or Pre-U equivalent, compared to the national average of 8%.
An impressive 32% of students achieved three or more straight A or A* grades across a range of subjects.
In maths and the sciences over 90% of examinations were passed at Grades A* to B.
Average UCAS points per candidate were 416, the equivalent of over three A grades per candidate.
This year has also seen the second set of excellent Cambridge Pre-U results - 90% of candidates passed at Distinction or Merit.
Leweston was one of the first schools in the UK to adopt this new and increasingly popular qualification in certain subjects when it was launched 3 years ago.
These results have enabled almost all Leweston’s leavers to win places at their chosen universities or specialist colleges.
Many girls will be going on to the more selective universities and art colleges including Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter, London School of Economics, London School of Fashion, Manchester, Nottingham, Newcastle, St Andrews and University College London to study degrees such as accounting, classics, drama, English, German and Italian, history, medicine, mechanical engineering, natural sciences, nursing, mathematics, philosophy and politics, physiotherapy, shoe design and zoology.
Headmaster Adrian Aylward said: “I am delighted with what is another strong set of results at Leweston.
"These outstanding achievements pay testament to the hard work of the students and the work ethic of the school, especially in the Sixth Form.
"These students should be justifiably proud of their success and they will undoubtedly continue to excel at their chosen universities.”
There will be an opportunity for parents and students to find out more about Sixth Form Study at Leweston and the Cambridge Pre-U, at the forthcoming Open Evening on Friday, October 7, at 6pm.
