Volunteers wanted by hospice Volunteers wanted by hospice

A VOLUNTEER recruitment drive is being held by St Margaret's Hospice on Saturday, September 17, in Yeovil.

The event will be held at the Vicarage Street Methodist Church from 10am to 3pm and organisers are looking for those 'special ones' who could help St Margaret's continue caring for local people freely.

St Margaret's has more than 800 volunteers working in a wide range of roles throughout the hospice. This commitment and invaluable support saves the hospice more than £1m each year in unpaid man hours - a huge contribution to its annual running costs of more than £8m.

There are a wide range of volunteering roles available at St Margaret's Hospice right across the county. These, among others, include roles in administration, fundraising, retail and on the hospice wards.

A hospice spokesman said: “By becoming a volunteer, not only are you giving something back to your local community, but you have the opportunity to learn new skills, meet new people and make new friends!

“Volunteering looks great on your CV and is recognised by employers and Universities. For those taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, volunteering is also an essential component of passing the award.

“Without volunteer support, St. Margaret's Hospice would be unable to deliver its specialist care to local people living with life-limiting illness.”

And the spokesman added: “If you'd like to give something back to your local hospice, go along to their open day to find out more about the volunteering opportunities available, they'd love to meet you!”
