Councillors explore Ilminster's open spaces

COUNCILLORS in Ilminster went on a walkabout to view Herne Hill and other open spaces the town council looks after.

They looked at the cricket pavilion, the new scorebox and the tennis courts, and were shown the work carried out by Mayor Roger Swann and a team of volunteers on the canal.

Proceeding up the Incline, the area where Ilminster Lions Club would like to plant the Lion’s Copse was shown to them, as well as a proposed site for a new Jubilee tree.

I reckon this is a cover story they were on walk about to pick some where else they can build new houses like they are wanting to do in the shudrick vally pretwood where there is talk of 360 new houses and 62 odd flat on greenland... wipee concrete jungle... this council needs to stop giving away out greenland

Perhaps you should become a town councillor, Mr/Ms Fearnley.

So let me get this straight, the councellors go out for a walk and that is news? Obviously the Chard and Ilminster news needed more padding out this week!

It is a great pity there has to be an organised walkabout. I would have thought our representatives on the town council would all be familiar with the town's assets.

To Mr Fearnley - no I am not a councillor.

To Mr Sainsbury - well said, my sentiments entirely

I would hope that in the course of their walkabout they may have noticed some of the damaged/vandalised seats around the town (including the one removed from Swan precinct) and maybe use some of the ill gotten gains from the recent precept rise to repair/replace said items. Also agree with Mr Sainsbury.
