A TAUNTON lawyer is fighting for compensation for over 100 women affected by the PIP breast implant concerns.

The Harris Fowler law firm has taken up the cases after it emerged last December that tens of thousands of women in the UK received the French implants.

Mary Blyth, right, of Harris Fowler, who is leading the cases, said: “Many of the women affected have suffered physically and from considerable personal anguish, and their future remains unclear.

“Thankfully, our research into the cases we’re already working on has revealed that those who’ve suffered as a result of these implants have a right to legal redress.”

There were initially concerns that the women would not be able to pursue claims through the court, but Ms Blyth says there is a case to answer.

She said: “We now believe women will be able to seek legal redress, and we’ll be taking forward the cases of over 100 women who suffered as a result of the implants.”

A recent Department of Health report concluded that the implants were not shown to be toxic, but were twice as likely to rupture as other forms of implant, leaving women facing the prospect of contaminated lymph nodes.

Some women face being able to have their implants removed, but being unable to pay for a replacement, which could result in health issues, such as cavities in their breasts which can fill with fluid and need to be drained.

They also risk depression and lack of self-esteem, according to Ms Blyth.

Harris Fowler is working on cases in the South-West and the rest of the UK.
