£250k for breast cancer work

First published in News

WOMEN undergoing breast cancer investigation at Yeovil District Hospital will get an enhanced service next spring when the NHS Trust makes a £250,000 investment in the latest digital mammogram technology.

The new digital equipment uses a lower radiation dose and yet provides better quality images. A particular benefit is that it should improve the pick-up rates for cancer.

In addition the images will be accessible by doctors in hospitals throughout Somerset which will improve care across the county for women.

Consultant breast surgeon, Caroline Osborne, said: "This is a fantastic new development which is going to significantly enhance the service provided at the YDH breast unit. The whole team are very excited about going digital."
