A MAJOR incident was sparked after a vehicle struck a gas main.

Homes were evacuated and people put up in nearby businesses after emergency services raced to the scene.

Several people dialled 999 reporting the incident in Station Road, Ilminster, at 10.23pm yesterday, Friday, August 31.

Fire crews confirmed that nobody was trapped in the vehicle.

They later reported that the incident was over and people had returned to their homes.
