POLICE are seeking witnesses following a fail to stop road traffic collision, which left a driver seriously injured.

It happened at about 4.15pm on Tuesday March 10 on the A358 between Taunton and Thornfalcon near Henlade.

A police spokesman said: "A recovery truck was towing another lorry and travelling in the direction of Taunton when a white van overtook using lane two, approaching Greenway Lane. The van braked suddenly, turning into Greenway Lane, which forced the recovery truck to brake hard.

"Because it was towing, the recovery vehicle started to swerve and the bar between the recovery vehicle and the lorry being towed, snapped.

"The recovery vehicle then turned over, causing extensive damage to the vehicle and serious injury to the driver, who was taken to the Musgrove Park Hospital for treatment, where he remains having treatment for a back injury.

"The road was re-opened at about 7.15pm but closed again later that night to allow vehicle recovery. It was fully re-opened at about 2am on Wednesday (March 11).

"We are keen to hear from anyone who was travelling along the A358 in the area, where the incident took place, who may have information to help our enquiries.

"We would particularly like the driver of the white van to contact us. The van has fluorescent squared patterns on the sides and back of the vehicle.

"Anyone able to help is asked to contact the roads policing unit at Bridgwater on the force number 101 quoting log 0582 of March 10."
