DO you, like millions of other Brits, enjoy doing cryptic crosswords?

If so, can you solve the following clues?

1. A few rest uneasily in the county.

2. County tor seems to move.

3. Not all, rest different.

4. See, storm lashed county.

Any good? If not, here's a tip - the answer is the same in all four cases.

Give up? Well, it's Somerset - if you still don't get it, read to the bottom of the article for an explanation.

Apparently our county is one of the top ten British locations most likely to appear in cryptic crosswords, according to Puzzler Media, which publishes Cryptic Crosswords magazine.

Editor Sue Purcell says that the variation and versatility of the English language encourages elaborate word play – and so British are word plays, in fact, that the cryptic crossword was used as part of the recruitment process for Bletchley Park code-breakers during the Second World War.

She added: "Place names often feature in cryptic crossword clues, especially British locations, as frequently our towns and cities have unusually spelt names or atypical pronunciation lending themselves to cryptic clues.

"Cryptic crossword clues rely on devices such as puns, anagrams and word play.

Here's an explanation of the four clues above.

*'A few' is 'some'; rest uneasily is the word rest jumbled up to form erset. Put them together and you get Somerset.

2. This is an anagram of tor seems.

3. 'Not all' is 'some' and 'rest' differently is 'rset' - join them up for Somerset.

4. Another anagram - this time of see storm.
