A yellow warning for torrential rain is in place until late this evening.
The Met Office says that further spells of heavy and persistent rain will affect Somerset through the rest of today.
There is a risk of flooding, including disruption to travel and a potential for strong winds, particularly around exposed coastal areas.
The wqet weather is due to a low pressure system running into the UK from the south today, bringing with it further spells of heavy rain
There remains some uncertainty over the locations of the heaviest rain and there is the potential for 20 mm to fall quite widely and with 40 to 60 mm possible in some places, much of this falling in a few hours.
As brightening skies supply extra energy there is a chance that slow-moving thundery showers will develop.
