A yellow weather warning is in place for parts of Somerset this Friday and Saturday as downpours return to the county.

Further spells of heavy rain are expected to develop during Friday evening, persisting overnight, before clearing away to the south during Saturday morning.

The heaviest and most prolonged spells of rain are likely to be over high ground.

The Met Office is advising people to be aware of the potential for further localised flooding and disruption to travel.

The wet weather is due to a slow moving cold front mvoving across the region during Friday evening and night, before clearing southeastwards during Saturday morning.

Around 15-25 mm of rain is expected to fall quite widely, with 40-60 mm possible over high ground in the west of the warning area. There is some uncertainty over how long the frontal zone will become slow moving across the region and therefore the expected amounts of rain.

Somerset County Gazette:

The Environment Agency is urging communities in the south west to stay alert to the risk of further flooding.

Neil Davies, National Flood duty manager at the Environment Agency, said:

“More rain today and a wet end to the week means that communities in the north and south west should remain alert to the risk of flooding."
