TWO Somerset men are in custody after they were arrested in Chippenham on suspicion of burglary. 

The 23-year-old and a 27-year-old were chased by police officers just after 7.15pm yesterday, Sunday, May 1.

Wiltshire Police received a report from a member of the public regarding a suspicious vehicle near to the Hills Recycling Centre.

Tri-Force officers from the Roads Policing Unit attended the scene and located a van which was secure and unattended.

While checking the area, two men were seen running within the secure compound.

A containment was put in place by Tri-Force officers and local NPT officers until dog units arrived.

Items including strimmers and gardening equipment was found piled next to a hole in the fence to the compound.

PC Cindy Hargreave and PD Tyke tracked the offenders to the edge of the M4 and then PC Tracy Doughty and PD Max resumed the track from the north side of the M4.

Two men were seen by another member of the public fleeing across the fields from PD Max, but they ran straight to waiting officers.

Both men, aged 23 and 27 from Somerset, were arrested on suspicion of burglary.

They remain in Melksham custody while enquiries continue.
