HOW come weather forecasters get it wrong as often as they get it right, yet they're already predicting the temperature for Wednesday, July 20?

Scorchio! Research reckons that will be the hottest day of teh year in Somerset - so maybe it's time to get the barbeque invitations out.

Apparently the mercury will hit 28degs C - and this summer is set to be our hottest for 100 years.

If that's right, get ready for a ‘heat surge’ winging its way over from the Continent to bring us heatwaves and scorching sunshine.

As a rather wet and cold National BBQ Week came to an end earlier this month, the nation is starting to look ahead to sunnier times to plan their summer parties and alfresco celebrations.

But choosing the date to hold these is a risky business with our unpredictable British summers.

That's why outdoor heating specialists Glowing-Embers.co.uk has pinpointed what day of the year is statistically the hottest.

After painstakingly going back through 30 years of average temperatures, they’ve found it’s a sizzling 28°C on July 20 in the South West.

If that's wrong, don't blame us - have a go at Richard Fewings, director at Glowing-Embers.co.uk.

He said: "If there’s one thing we can rely on, it's that we can never really rely on the weather.

"But we’re going to keep everything crossed that this year, we do have a Great British Summer."
