THE weather doesn't look set to be brilliant this weekend, but there's plenty going on, so there's no need to stay cooped up inside the house.

Here's some of what's on offer around Somerset this weekend:

Saturday, August 20

  • The documentary film of the ground-breaking exhibition David Bowie is, created by the Victoria and Albert Museum in London in 2013 is being re-released in cinemas, and will be screened at The Brewhouse Theatre in Taunton. 7.30pm, all tickets cost £10.
  • Taunton Ambulance Station is holding a free open da at its base in Lisieux Way. You can see the emergency vehicles, and there will be a bouncy castle, face painting, a burger van, ice cream van, bandaging and much more. 11am-4pm.
  • The Somerset Co-op Community Land Trust is holding an open day in Taunton for people to find out about how community land trusts work. All are invited to the event at 10 East Reach, for drop ins between 12noon and 3pm. The trust is developing housing and is planning more flats and an eco-development. The group hope people who come along will be interested in becoming members of the CLT. 
  • In The Mix Youth Project is inviting people in Wiveliscombe for food and refreshments at the Base Youth Centre. The evening gathering will take place from 5.30pm to 9pm. It is to raise funds so it can open in the autumn.
  • Party in the Park returns to Blenheim Gardens in Minehead. The free event, organised by Minehead Rotary, takes place from 11am to 4pm. There will be live bands, music, a bouncy castle, giant slide, face painting, stalls, games and Minions. There's also fancy dress for the best Despicable Me character.
  • Watchet Summertime finishes today but there's plenty to enjoy. There will be a display of Lambrettas and other vehicles from 10am, live music throughout the day, Paella on the Esplanade from 6pm and fireworks at 10pm.
  • Hazewell Lodge will be holding a summer beach party to raise money for the residents fund. There will be stalls, games, a barbecue and more. Starts at 1pm and all are welcome.
  • The Wiveliscombe Flower Show takes place from 2pm-5pm. There will be plenty to see and enjoy, including a display from the Wiveliscombe Model Railway.
  • Puriton Party in the Park returns from 2pm-10pm. Enjoy a family fun day with crafts, stalls, games, barbecue, music and more. Entry isn £2 for adults and free for under 16s.
  • The girls from Flowers International in Bridgwater are hosting a cake sale forthe charity Eliot’s Touch. The event takes place in the Flowers International store in Eastover in Bridgwater between 9am and 5pm. There will be cupcake themed flower arrangements for sale and plenty of treats to eat.

  • The next Chard community lunch is set to be held in the Methodist Church hall. The event, which is being held nine times this year, will see coffee and teas served from 10.30am with lunch from midday until 1pm. The lunch at the Fore street venue is open to all and there is no charge, but donations will towards the cost of the lunch.

Sunday, August 21

  • There will be live music events at Wellington Park from 2.30pm, Blenheim Gardens in Minehead from 2pm and Vivary Park in Taunton from 3pm. 
  • Enjoy a special cream tea during an event at St Michael’s Church Room in Othery. Located in the grounds of The Old Vicarage, in North Lane, the family-friendly event will take place between 3pm and 5pm. As well as delicious scones, the gathering will feature a cake stall, books for sale, a raffle, crazy croquet and a coconut shy, with organisers promising plenty to see and do for all the family.
