AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after a man died following a collision in Bridgwater.
Emergency services attended the scene on Broadway, at the junction with Albert Street, at around 5.40pm on Saturday, after reports of a crash involving a car and a pedestrian.
The pedestrian, a 66-year-old man from Bridgwater, was declared dead at the scene.
He has not yet been identified, but his next of kin have been informed.
The road was closed off for more than five hours by police officers to allow emergency services to work, and for collision investigators to start their investigations.
Now, the police are appealing for witnesses or anyone who has any information regarding the crash to contact them as part of their enquiries.
A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: “The pedestrian sadly died at the scene.
“Specially trained officers are supporting his family.
“No arrests have been made but enquiries are still very much ongoing.
“We are appealing for witnesses to get in touch.”
Following the incident the road was closed by police between 5.40pm and 11.20pm, leading to lengthy delays for motorists around the area.
