I THINK Somerset County Council and the First Bus Company should be utterly ashamed by the way they have taken off some bus services.
The one that served Redlake Drive, Thames Drive and Calder Crescent does not exist anymore. I think it is because there are too many elderly people in that area and they don’t like people with bus passes using them.
Now the elderly have to walk a long way to catch a bus, either to Hamilton Way or Lisieux Way. They have to walk along lanes to get there.
As some can’t walk that far what have they got to do? Stay at home all the time or get a taxi, which some can’t afford. Then they have the cheek to put on a Holway Circular bus which comes from Holway along Chestnut Drive and into Lisieux Way.
Why can’t they from the Chestnut Road roundabout, go along Blackbrook Way to the roundabout at the top, and back again into Lisieux Way, which would take five minutes or less, then people in these areas would only have to walk to the bottom of the road? That’s too easy to think of I suppose.
The council, instead of spending thousands of pounds on a new road which will be no good at all when finished (whenever finished), should have put that money into public transport.
The elderly people are discriminated against because the buses should not have been taken off in the first place.
