SCHOOLS across South Somerset are being closed today because of the heavy snowfall.

Holyrood Academy in Chard is shut apart from students in Years 10-13 who have examinations scheduled during the day.

A school spokesman said: “Examinations will take place as planned on the Upper Site. Students will need to allow plenty of time for their journey to the examinations in order to comply with Examination Board requirements.”

Swanmead Community School at Ilminster is also closed because of the overnight snow which has made the surrounding area unsafe for pupils and staff to travel to school.

Other schools the News know about being closed today include Combe St Nicholas Primary School, Neroche Primary School at Broadway, Shepton Beauchamp First School, the Barrington and Ilton bases of St Mary’s and St Peter’s Primary School, Avishayes Primary School in Chard, St Bartholomew’s First School in Crewkerne and Pen Mill Infants and Nursery in Yeovil.
