A SOUTH Somerset school for vulnerable learners has been rated good by Ofsted inspectors following recent visits.

In September 2013 Somerset County Council restructured its arrangements for vulnerable learners being taught in Pupil Referral Units.

This led to four PRUs being set up, including - South Somerset Partnership School in Yeovil, Inspector comments included: • South Somerset: “Staff are proud of the difference they make to pupils’ lives through their good teaching and excellent role modelling.

“The individualised courses and programmes of study are a significant strength of the school.

"The curriculum includes a strong and successful emphasis on increasing pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and in tackling issues of equality.”

Cllr Frances Nicholson, Somerset County Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Families, said: “It is so pleasing to read these reports and learn of the progress being made by pupils in the Council’s PRUs who often come from very challenging backgrounds.

“The consistent message is that good teaching has made a real difference to these young people’s lives and all the staff involved should be very proud of themselves.”
