TWO men who subjected a 52-year-old man to an “horrendous assault”, while they tried to burgle his home, which caused him to lose an eye, have been jailed.

Eli Isaacs and Jack Isaacs caused the life-changing injuries back in May of this year during a robbery in Somerton.

Eli, 26-years-old from Pines Residential Site in Frome was jailed for eight years and three months after he admitted charges of robbery and GBH at Taunton Crown Court.

He was also ordered to pay a £120 victim surcharge.

Jack Isaacs, 19, of Coles Furlong in South Petherton was given a sentence of six years and nine months in a Young Offenders’ Institution after admitted a charge of robbery.

He also was ordered to pay a £120 victim surcharge.

A third man, Garry Isaacs, 47, of Duke House in Ilminster, will be sentenced on January 16, 2015 after he admitted to assisting an offender.

The incident happened on Monday May 5, when the men were disturbed by residents as they tried to burgle a property in Gassons Lane.

The victims tried to stop the men but were injured.

The 52-year-old man was hit in the face, suffering significant injuries which then resulted in him losing an eye.

Investigating officer, Det Con Andrew Tearle said: “The two victims were threatened and attacked while trying to protect their own home from these two burglars.

“One of the victims was left with permanent injuries to his eye after being subjected to an horrendous assault.

“We’re delighted that the hard work of the entire investigations team has resulted in these two man facing justice for their crimes.”
