A TEENAGE girl is in hospital in a critical condition after she was stabbed on King Arthur's Drive in Yeovil last night (June 28).

Police have arrested a 30-year-old man following the incident after attacking a number of people with a knife.

He was detained by a member of the public before police arrived at around 7.30pm.

A 17-year-old girl was taken to hospital and remains in a critical condition following emergency surgery.

A 29-year-old woman who sustained an arm injury was released from hospital after treatment.

Police cordoned off a section of the road overnight.

It is expected to remain closed for some time while forensic and other investigations continue.

DI Lindsay Shearlock said: "This appears to be an unprovoked attack on innocent bystanders in a residential street. I must praise the man who bravely tackled the suspect, even though he had seen the violence of the attacks, and detained him until police officers arrived.

"A second man should also be commended for taking the most seriously injured victim to hospital.

"I would appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any other information which could help our investigation, to contact us through 101, quoting reference 69382/15."

The man remains in police custody.
