Firefighters were called to Martock yesterday evening after a tumble dryer fire filled a home with smoke.
Three fire appliances from Martock and Yeovil were sent and found smoke pouring from the ground floor of the two storey terraced property on North Street.
There was nobody trappd inside and crews entered the property breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to investigate.
Just before 9pm they had confirmed the building was "heavily smoke logged" and the gas and electrics were isolated.
By 9.10pm the fire was believed to have been extinguished but crews remained checking the affected house and neighbouring properties.
A further fire appliance was requested (mobilised from Somerton), as further help was needed to carry out salvage and ventilation of the property.
By 11.30pm crews confirmed the incident had been brought under control.
The fire, which started accidentally in the tumble dryer, caused 90% damage to the utility room it was in, and 20% fire damage to the remainder of the ground floor.
There was also 80% smoke damage to the rest of the property.
The Red Cross Fire and Emergency Support Services based at Bridgwater also attended to provide the occupants with post incident care.
