A new ‘Lidl of the Future’ supermarket will be built in West Hendford, following permission by planning officers at South Somerset Council being granted.

The supermarket first revealed in 2015 that it wanted to open a brand new store in Yeovil, as part of its ongoing expansion ambitions within the UK.

The investment will see Lidl build a sustainable 2,611m² store on the 8,577m² site, with plans to create up to 40 new jobs.

Customers and Lidl employees are at the heart of the ‘Lidl of the Future’ design. The supermarket will boast a fully-fledged bakery, 12 tills, 109 parking spaces, restrooms and baby changing facilities.

Lidl UK’s property director, James Mitchell, saidd: “We could not be more delighted to have received planning permission, and look forward to getting started on construction.

The new store in Yeovil will add to Lidl’s existing store portfolio of 620, and will form part of the company’s growth plans which hope to see this increase to 1,200 store in the future.
