PEOPLE diagnosed with a primary breast cancer will now be able to meet others in similar circumstances, thanks to a new support group which launches this month at Yeovil Hospital.
The group, which starts on Tuesday January 19, has been set up by Yeovil Hospital breast care nurses for patients with primary breast cancer.
Sessions will run every two months initially, with the possibility of becoming more regular if there is demand.
Becky Laney, lead Breast Care Nurse, explained the reasons behind the group: “We often see patients who are keen to meet other people going through similar experiences to themselves, so they can form a support network.
"Attending a group like this can help prevent a person from feeling isolated and provide a safe, confidential environment where they can talk openly about their cancer.
"Our group will be patient-led, focussing on informal discussion, education, outdoor activities, fundraising events and improving cancer care both locally and further afield. Anyone diagnosed with primary breast cancer is welcome to come along.”
The sessions start on Tuesday January 18 from 1.30pm-3pm in the seminar room at the Yeovil Women’s Hospital.
