THE SOMERSET Children's Parliament was officially opened by MP Marcus Fysh last week.
The group of children sat in the Council Chamber, Shire Hall, Taunton, on Friday, where Mr Fysh gave an opening address, before listening to the schools presenting in the afternoon session.
The topics covered included resolving food poverty, helping endangered species, protecting ancient woodlands, cyber bullying, developing playgrounds and supporting ‘send a friend to school’.
Mr Fysh said: "I am sure I have seen some of the future MPs today, the confidence of delivery from all of these young students was truly impressive, they should all be very proud of themselves.
"The afternoon session was a real credit to the schools involved, and I was pleased to be able to see one of the schools in my own constituency, West Chinnock Primary School, pick up the runners-up prize.
"I am also pleased to send huge congratulations to Combe St Nicholas Primary School, who won the mornings session discussing the sugar tax, and I will aim to meet with them when they visit the Houses of Parliament in April."
