Organiser Pat Jones said: “It was a very good day. We had about 60 people attend, and it is the best one we have had in ages.

“About 15 or 16 people did Easter bonnets and lots of children. There were Easter activities, guess the bunny’s name, afternoon tea, and entertainment by John Gudge.”

Children, staff, parents, grandparents and friends of South Petherton CofE Infants and Pre-School gathered in church for their Easter service and bonnet parade.

Acting head teacher Claire Craven said: “The children looked wonderful in their bonnets and they all sang a mixture of Easter and spring songs for a packed church.”

As part of the Easter celebrations at Greenfylde First School, families were invited to take part in a range of activities at The Minster.

Led by Rev Nigel Done and organised by Tracey Hallett, their youth pioneer, attractions included decorating thought pebbles, arranging Easter flowers, parachute games and creating their own Easter gardens.

The children also enjoyed a special snack of hot cross buns and took part in singing songs to celebrate the message of Easter.

Earlier in the week, the Rev Done had led the Easter services for the school in the Minster where children celebrated through song, drama, pictures and prayers.

Elsewhere, Isle Abbotts playgroup welcomed spring with an Easter Eggstravaganza.

The playgroup’s treasurer Tim Westworth said the day was “another great event helping to raise funds for the village playgroup”.

“With lots of enthusiasm for hunting the Easter bunny along the village Easter Egg trail, as well as a competitive edge to find the fastest egg and spoon racer, children and adults alike enjoyed a fun range of colourful activities, on an otherwise rather bleak and cloudy day,” he added.

“The children’s small animal corner with duck, sheep, guinea pig and chickens drew lots of attention, as well as effort to guess their “given-names.”

The group also had colourful Easter Bonnets, and raised a total of £658.10 was raised for the playgroup funds.
