CHARITY fundraisers from across South Somerset took part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning last week.

Communities and companies held fundraising events, which even saw Tesco staff from Chard and Ilminster running in the rain.

The fundraising jogs were part of a series of relays taking place between stores in the south west.

When the Chard staff handed Macmillan mascot Muggy over to the charity’s workers at Summervale Surgery, the Tesco total raised stood at more than £8,000.

Shirley Lee of Ilminster organised her own Macmillan coffee morning.

She said: “I would like to say a big thank you to all who donated and came to my Macmillan coffee morning on Friday, September 30. The total raised currently stands at £362.”

Sixth form students at Holyrood Academy joined the fundraising feat by collecting £143 at their event, while Barclays Chard held a raffle event with prizes donated from local businesses.

The total raised by Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning stands at £734,419.
