TWO people who died in a crash on the A303 have been named.

Robert and Brenda Newton, both 72 from the Ottery St Mary area of Devon were killed after their car was involved in a crash with a van on the A303 near Buckland St Mary.

The crash happened on October 31 at around 1pm and the road was closed until 10pm that night as investigators carried out their work.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "A van which was travelling in a north easterly direction had just negotiated at sweeping right hand bend when it appears to have crossed the centre of the road and was in collision with a car travelling in the opposite direction.

"The occupants of the car – Mr and Mrs Newton – were both seriously injured and sadly died at the scene shortly afterwards.

"The van driver required treatment at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital before being released."

Collision investigators have repeated their appeals for information.
