A WOMAN has been airlifted to hospital after a serious crash on the A303 which is closed in both directions.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said that the woman's injuries were potentially 'life threatening' or 'life changing'.

The crash, which involved two cars, happened close to Hortons Cross just after 11am, and emergency services were at the scene of the crash.

One female was airlifted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol with a leg fracture and chest injuries, a spokesperson for South Western Ambulance said.

She had to be cut from the car by the fire service.

A man has also been taken to Yeovil Hospital with minor injuries to his knee and elbow.

The A303 reopened around 6.30pm.

Delays on the A303 are also causing heavy congestion on B3168.
