HUNDREDS of pounds was raised by people across South Somerset who held their own Macmillan Coffee Morning events.

Among those who raised money was Clare Banfield from Chard, whose first ever event raised £828.68.

She said: “It was in my bungalow. We had at least 30 people in the kitchen at one time.

I just made it an open house from 10am until 4pm. I made all the cakes myself and Mrs B’s in Crewkerne donated all the ingredients. It was fantastic.”

Wendy Massey and Marie Culverwell raised £645 for Macmillan with their event at Tatworth Memorial Hall.

Wendy said: “This is the third Macmillan coffee morning I have held.

“The first made a similar amount, the next £360, so was really pleased with this year’s result.

“We did teas coffees, cakes, bacon rolls, ploughmans, homemade quiche and salad we also held a draw and brought clothes to sale we probably had about 80 people throughout the morning.”

Veronica Horman, president of Rotary Club of Ilminster, also held a coffee morning.

She said: “Thank you to those who made and bought the cakes those who donated books and of course those who donated prizes and sold raffle tickets.”

Her event raised £180 to aid the work of Macmillan Cancer Support.
