A FREE day of outdoor cooking, skating, climbing and play will be held in Ilminster this weekend as part of a series of free events organised by South Somerset District Council this summer.

The event, being held in conjunction with the Lions Club fete, will be held at Swanmead School playing fields from 10am to 4.30pm on Sat-urday (June 19).

The council’s Big Lottery-funded community play officer, Stuart Tal-bott, said: “We will be creating a play zone with sensory trails, roasting marshmallows over an open fire pit and setting up a skate area where young people can show off their skills.

“Following the success of last year’s event we are again bringing all the activities together into one area for people to enjoy and, together with the Lions Club, planning a great event for people of all ages.”

People will also be able to plant their own seeds with the Ding Gar-dening Club and take them home to grow.

The council’s leisure spokesman, Cllr Sylvia Seal, said: “These events are a good way for people to have a free fun day out.

“Stuart is funded by the Big Lottery Fund so essentially by gaining this support these play days are extra to what a district council could normally provide.

“We look forward to seeing hundreds of families enjoying the day. Last year, we began to see families travelling to each of the play days across the district.”
