THE Taunton Muskets had a mixed day of baseball as they squared off in a doubleheader against Cardiff Merlins A.

South West and Wales Baseball League action saw the Muske take to the field.

But this was the only fixture played for Taunton Baseball Club.

The Pistols' scheduled game against Weston Jets did not go ahead as it was unfortunately cancelled due to issues with the field.

Things could not have gone worse in the first game against Cardiff, as the Muskets lost 15-0.

Their luck failed to prevail as they barely managed two hits in the match, while Merlins A's pitcher Phillip Pallmann secured four strikeouts.

The Muskets found redemption in their second game, however.

A gripping 9-8 victory saw a much-improved performance from the home side.

Players Chris Cranmer and Jake Palmer pitched impressively, aided by some stellar outfield plays, including two by Al Troake in centre field.

The game ended on a high note as a hit from Tom Poole secured victory for the Muskets.

Muskets coach Chris Chantrey made no attempt to mask the disappointment of the first game, stating: "The less said about game one the better, but it's great to come back and compete in game two."

He went on to highlight the positive shift in performance during the second game but informed that there is still much work to be done ahead of next weekend.

Following the cancellation of the Pistols game, the Muskets awarded two Tricky Cider MVPs.

The accolades were given to game two standouts: Tom Poole who scored the winning RBI and key player Al Troake.

Coming up next for the Taunton teams, the Pistols are gearing up to face the Bristol Buccaneers.

Meanwhile, the Muskets are scheduled to compete against the New Forest Thunder Knights on the south coast.
