INJURY TIME AGONY

12:38pm Wednesday 31st October 2001

Blackheath's injury-time jinx struck again when they went down to a “90th minute” try against

Redruth after leading 15-13.

The irony of the try was that the touch judge was signalling a knock-on, but the referee did not see him.

Club had dominated the first half and had plenty of possession, but did not convert it into points.

Although Chris Trace was given a ball from the loose and no-one could catch him over the 40 metres to the try-line. Jonathan Griffin converted and then kicked a penalty. Redruth did too, to make it 10-3 at the break.

Charlie Abban scored a try in the corner, but the conversion was missed before Redruth got back into the game with a converted try and a penalty.

Club then had two tries disallowed, both coming from rolling mauls.

Then came the drama of 10 minutes of injury time and for the last five the ball was in open play, the crowd were screaming for Club to put the ball into touch and end the game, but it was not to be as Redruth made one last effort to snatch the winning score.

On Saturday, the much-awaited derby with Westcombe Park takes place at Goddington Dene.

Old Colfeians snatched a dramatic draw with the last kick of the game against Tabard.

On a sunny day with no wind, Tabard relied largely on their heavy pack to gain possession and drive.

Both their tries were scored in this fashion. Michael Skinner scored all Tabard's points and did not miss a kick at goal.

James Leverington scored two tries, while Matt Townsend scored four penalties, including the last-minute one, plus a conversion to earn his side a 26-all draw.

On Saturday, Colfes entertain Old Patesians at Horn Park in the league, kick off is at 2.30pm.

Charlton Park lost their fourth league match of the season, going down at home to high-flying Worthing 20-6. Park's only points were from two penalty kicks scored by Ewan Adams.

A below strength Shooters Hill side won 49-12 away to Deal Wanderers in Kent League 3. Jason Marshall, Knox Levavatanabua and Pat Beale got two tries each.

With some regulars missing from their pack, Brockleians narrowly lost out 24-21 at home to Whitstable.

Brocks' tries were scored by Tim Onaniyan and Rob Paterson with Michael Peart converting.
