THE independent pressure group I Want A Referendum has announced the results of its recent campaign in the Somerton constituency.
The campaign gave voters the opportunity to have their say on whether the Government should give British people the referendum they were promised.
The result of this vote was an overwhelming YES in favour of a referendum with 87% of participants clearly calling upon all MPs to honour their manifesto promises and vote for a referendum in the House of Commons this week.
Annunziata Rees-Mogg, the Conservative's prospective parliamentary candidate for Somerton, said: "I am delighted that so many people wanted to make their voices heard by joining in with this campaign.
"It is hardly surprising that 87% of participants voted to have a referendum, I just hope that our MPs are listening and decide to vote with the Conservative Party on Wednesday, March 5, to echo this in Parliament.
"Given that 88% of people also stated that they were against the European Constitution, it would be a disgrace for the Government to bulldoze this Treaty through Parliament without giving us the referendum it and the Liberal Democrats promised in 2005."
