Sign up now for the veterans' badge
THE Fleet Air Arm Museum at RNAS Yeovilton will be the Somerset focal point for this year's National Veterans Day on June 29.
There will be free entry to the museum as young and old, veterans and non-veterans come to celebrate the contribution made by all armed services and learn about how to record their family history for posterity.
The organisers of Somerset's Veterans Day are hoping to encourage all veterans to register for an "Armed Forces Veteran" badge which will be presented on the day by Admiral Terry Loughran and Yeovil MP David Laws at the museum. All registrations should be received by June 6.
Admiral Loughran, chairman of the museum trustees, said: "The day is not a substitute for our annual acts of commemoration and remembrance, but is a nationwide celebration of veterans at the heart of our community and provides an opportunity for the nation to say thank-you' to all ex-service personnel, whatever their age, background or service experience."
Throughout the day, visitors to the museum will see stands, workshops and displays and be entertained by AsOne Theatre Production presenting a "fusion of drama, song and projected image." reflecting music inspired by 20th century conflicts.
The event will be free to enter and doors will open at 10am and the presentation of badges to Veterans will commence at 2.30pm.
If you would like to register for a badge to be presented to you on June 29 please contact Julia Hodson at the Fleet Air Arm Museum on 01935-842610 or e-mail Juliah@fleetairarm.com
