Second--place for muscle man Jon
 |
| Jon Carter |
YEOVIL bodybuilder Jon Carter came a close second in the NABBA West of Britain Bodybuilding contest at Exeter.
Jon, co-owner of the Tone Zone Fitness Centre and Fit Shop Supplements, competed in the Masters class, where you have to be over 40 years of age to qualify for this category.
There were six competitors in this class and he knew he would have to really fight to come in the top three as the competitors in the Masters category are always in top condition.
"Competition was tough as I was up against some much larger physiques than mine, however my condition was the best it's ever been and that gave me confidence and some say my condition was the best in the whole competition," he said.
"I was pipped at the post by another competitor who had a much larger physique, but some say I deserved first place but that's how it goes and it's what the judges say that counts."
Second place has now given Jon the opportunity to compete in the UK finals at Southport at the end of May.
Jon added: "Tongues were wagging even before I stepped on stage as the Tone Zone has a reputation within the bodybuilding community for producing first class physiques as previously we have had three competitors winning world title status and of which one competitor has been given professional status, a Junior Mr Britain and various British and regional titles.
"So wherever the Tone Zone team compete the other competitors know it's not going to be a walk over for them
"I will be training flat out now until the finals and will then take a well earned rest and then start preparing for next year."
El's Kitchen Café based on the Pen Mill trading estate in Yeovil has kindly offered sponsorship and will now be preparing Jon's daily meal plan consisting of fish, chicken and vegetables.
"I am also negotiating sponsorship with a sports supplement supplier who are offering to pay for my entire daily regime of protein powders and creatine," he added.
