Prince Edward is at Westfield School
The Earl of Wessex, Prince Edward
The Earl of Wessex, Prince Edward

THE Earl of Wessex is in Yeovil this afternoon to officially open the new £1.7-million learning resource centre at Westfield Community School.

He is at the school to see for himself the new facilities at Westfield which is a designated specialist science college.

There was a real need to up-date and expand the facilities available and Somerset County Council funding supported the £1.7-million building project, which meant all temporary classrooms on the site could be removed.

Building work was undertaken during term time and, despite being in the middle of the Westfield site, the school continued to function as normal with staff and students enjoying watching the new facilities take shape.

It has provided two new science labs and a new block in the centre of the school which includes a spacious new lib-rary, six classrooms, a careers teaching room, offices for individual counselling and support services, small rooms for group therapy work for students with learning, emotional, social is-sues, a large space for movement therapy and other activities and a conference/training room.

The Earl of Wessex will be unveiling a commemorative plaque in the new library.

He will also be meeting Westfield pupils who are working towards their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award.
