CHILDREN from Westfield Pre-School and Oaklands Primary School joined forces with David Laws MP to provide a stamp of approval for the community’s new Post Office service launched at The Co-operative food store in Westfield, Yeovil.
The launch marks a return of Post Office services to Westfield after an absence of more than five years – a move welcomed by customers, the community and local representatives during public consultations.
Post Office local is part of a major modernisation programme across the Post Office network designed to make it easier for customers to do business, through longer opening hours and modern open plan environments. Westfield’s new service offers access to Post Office services seven days a week, with opening hours more than doubled with 52 extra hours a week.
Customers will be able to access a wide range of services, including most mail transactions, home shopping returns, online banking cash deposits, car tax renewal, and withdrawals.
Matthew Charlton, Store Manager at The Co-operative Food in Westfield, said: “Local services such as this are vital in creating a sense of community, having Post Office services based within the food store makes it simple and convenient for customers to run all their errands at once. I’m looking forward to introducing the store’s existing customers, and new ones, to the new service. I’m confident they will be pleased with the flexibility and convenience.”
Yeovil MP, David Laws, said: “It is great news that the Post Office in Westfield is opening again in The Co-operative food store, this will be of real value to local residents. I am grateful to all those who have worked hard to make this happen”.
Julia Marwood, Post Office Regional Network Manager – South, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be re-opening a Post Office in Westfield again. We had been searching for a partner to take on a Post Office for a while, so we were delighted when The Co-operative opened in Westfield and was keen to open a Post Office for the benefit of the community.
"We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents of Westfield and we are confident this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future. This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”
