Waste collections affected due to strike

SOUTH Somerset District Council have warned delays maybe caused to refuse collections due to a national council strike planned for Tuesday.

Staffing levels may be down on some services, but overall they have said there should not be a major disruption to services, apart from refuse collections.

Council chief executive Phil Dolan said: "We are working to ensure residents don't see a major difference in the quality of service they receive from us on strike day, and many services will be open for business as usual.

"There will of course be some disruption to services we offer, but we will do our best to minimise this and ask residents to be patient with the staff who will be trying to assist them."

Telephone lines will be under pressure, and it might take longer to answer calls as a result of the strike.

Area Offices at Chard, Langport, Wincanton, and Petters Way in Yeovil will still be open.

Crewkerne and Ilminster Community Offices will be closed, but Somerton, and Castle Cary Community Offices will be open.

At the moment it is unclear if Bruton Community Office will be open.

Refuse and garden waste collections will be the service most hit by the strike action.

Collections due on Tuesday will be collected on Saturday (April 1).

Collections on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (March 31) will be unaffected.

The green garden waste bins that are being withdrawn will also be put out on Saturday for collection in areas where they were due to be collected on Tuesday.
