IT was Nomination Finals Night at Johnson Park this week in the Yeovil Sports Skittles League and a fine night of skittling started with the Lumber Cup Final.

Colin Pardey of ODS hit a super 60, then had to watch in amazement as Adrian White of Split Pins hit a 16-spare on the last hand to force a play-off.

Colin then had eight on the extra hand, but his hopes were dashed as Adrian got another spare to win.

The Divisions Three to Five Final followed the Lumber Cup and Mixstars, of Division Five, certainly showed their Division Three opponents, Able 8, no mercy.

After a poor first hand of 39, Mixstars hit 55 to lead by 16 and never looked back.

After five hands, they led by 42, with Jon Napier in top form, hitting 57.

They eventually won by 39, to leave Able 8 as runners-up for the third successive season and the fourth time in ten years. Should they be called the Unable 8?

The Division One and Two final was played on the upstairs alley between Yellow Wagtail B and Herky Snerkeys.

After three hands, the Waggies led by 16. Herkys reduced the deficit to five pins after five hands, only for Richard Lodge’s boys to hit 71 on the last hand.

The 77-to-win target proved too tall an order for Herkys and they finished 12 pins short. Andy Jones (59), Harry Sayers (55) and Scott Ewens (54) all did well for Herkys, but were outshone by Waggies’ captain Richard Lodge, who hit a magnificent match-winning 68.
